How To Drape A Saree | The Sleeve Drape

Learn how to do the Sleeve Drape!

Products Used:

Step #1:

Tip: Use a non-starched cotton or other lightweight saree for this drape.

Measure your pallu/sleeve by gathering one end of your saree, wrapping it around your body, under your left arm, across your chest, and onto your left shoulder.

Step #2:

Pleat your pallu, not including the sleeve part (about a foot or so of the end of your pallu). Place a safety pin where your sleeve ends and where your pallu hits your waist.

Tip: Don't iron your pallu pleats as you may want to adjust it later on.

Step #3:

Start draping your saree, tucking it around your waist once.

Step #4:

Grab your pallu and wrap it around your body, draping it over your left shoulder. The safety pin that you placed at the bottom of your pallu should be sitting at your hip.

Step #5:

Pull your saree taut and start pleating.

Tip: If your pleats aren't staying in place, you can use a hair straightener to press them down!

Step #6:

Tuck in your pleats and any excess fabric.

Step #7:

Grab your pallu off your shoulder, wrap it under your left arm, across your chest, and onto your left shoulder then pin it into place.

Step #8:

Spread the sleeve part of your pallu around your arm. You can pin the sides of your sleeve together if you prefer it closed.

Step #9:

Gather the end of your sleeve and secure it with a hair tie.

Step #10:

Pull the sleeve up to your elbow and tuck in any extra fabric/tassels. Fluff out the sleeve to your liking.

Step #11:

And there you have the Sleeve Drape!
