One of many hacks for perfect hip pleats. Pull the saree taut and then pin it to your right thigh. Pinch and pull the saree up and tuck it into your waistband.

Saree School Lesson 11 - How to preserve your lace sarees.
Feed a band-aid, button, or piece of paper through the safety pin before pinning your saree. I used white paper here so that it is easy to see in the video but would recommend using a similar colour to the saree.
